This is the second edition
of the overview of Norwegian companies and organisations that are involved
in developing hydrogen as an energy carrier. The first edition was published
in 2006, and has now been transformed from a static document to an interactive
web portal where the respective companies can update the information about
their hydrogen activities continuously.
Hydrogen is seen as an energy carrier that can potentially substitute all current fossil energy carriers. Based on renewable energy, hydrogen can also have a strong impact environmnentally. A number of governments
have therefore formed programs to stimulate for hydrogen to prove itself as a good substitute for fossil fuels.
In addition to the environmental benefits, hydrogen and fuel
cells applications can also have a significant impact on energy security as
well as on new industry development, and is seen as a promising opportunity
for job creation.
Hydrogen and fuel cells solutions will require large investments in technological
research and development as well as solving the problems of commercial
and socio-economic issues. These complex tasks require formation
of public-private partnerships, and involvement of many stakeholders.
The HyNor project, which in total has around 50 partners is a good example
of such a partnership.
The Norwegian Hydrogen Guide is meant to give an overview of the many stakeholders as well
as showing how the authorities intend to coordinate the public support
activities. This will give the participants an opportunity both
nationally and internationally to promote their own activities and promote
Norway as a country that wants to play an active role in the hydrogen
society.
Hopefully the guide can serve as an effective means to find new partners
and inspiration for innovative actions, both in Norway and internationally.
This second edition is being created by Norsk Hydrogenforum with the
support of Innovation Norway, the Norwegian Research Council, and Institute for Energy Technology (IFE).
